The Pima-UAZ STEM Bridge Program connects transfer students with the Arizona’s Science, Engineering, and Math Scholars (ASEMS) initiative—empowering them with academic, social, and professional support as they pursue STEM degrees. According to survey results, 84% of students said ASEMS significantly influenced their decision to stay in STEM, while over 90% reported strong support in areas like academic help, community belonging, and access to opportunities. The program also excels in fostering faculty interactions, career exploration, and preparation for graduate or professional school.

The Pima-UAZ STEM Bridge Program helps Pima Community College students successfully transfer and complete STEM degrees at the University of Arizona. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, 90% of participants have either graduated or are still persisting in STEM programs. Notably, 85% of these students are projected to graduate within 3 years, nearly double the rate of non-participating STEM transfer students at UA. The STEM Bridge Program is a nationally supported initiative that helps academically talented, low-income students transfer from Pima Community College to the University of Arizona to complete STEM degrees. With 9 in 10 participants persisting or graduating, the program far exceeds the national average for STEM bachelor’s completion from community college starters. Students receive up to $5,000 per semester, personalized mentoring from both Pima and UA faculty, research opportunities, and career preparation.
